Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine a room with 21 first grade students using Ipads at the same time. Some are listening to books being read to them, some are practicing spelling words, and still others are recording themselves reading a story they have written. Without headphones, this could be chaos!
I have an awesome classroom filled with 21 eager first graders this year!
These children have been given the opportunity to use technology in a way they might never have gotten to, thanks to the grant that brought us 25 Ipads. First grade is a year of giant steps in a child's education. They become fluent readers, they learn to add and subtract, they learn to write stories of their own, and so much more. The only problem is that we do not have headphones, and I believe this will hinder us from using the Ipads to their fullest potential.
My Project
I love teaching first grade! I love seeing how much the students grow just in this one year of schooling. I was thrilled when I found out I was chosen as one of the classrooms to receive a class set of Ipads. We work daily in Reading stations called The Daily 5, and we also work 2 to 3 times a week in Math stations. Having this type of technology in my classroom will enable students to work individually on reading stories, writing stories, learning new vocabulary, practicing adding, subtracting, graphing, place value, and so much more. I believe each student having their own set of headphones will help keep our learning environment one that is calm and conducive to learning and not an environment of chaos.

The headphones will be the icing on the cake! We are so thankful for the opportunity to use such wonderful technology daily, and we would be forever grateful for the opportunity to do this in a calm and controlled environment. It is so important for each student to be able to focus on their own device and not be distracted by what another child is working on at the same time. Thank you!!
