Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The 87 students in fifth grade this year are excited and ready to learn. They have come to fifth grade very prepared for the challenges and projects that they will be presented with throughout the year. Many of these students come from lower economic backgrounds, yet they are drawn to technology and the entertainment that it provides.
They love using technology and the opportunities that they will have to use it as fifth graders.
Many of the interventions provided by the school district involve technology with audio components individualized for each student. They love these programs and they can see growth in their learning when they use them.
My Project
Many of my students do not have the ability to go to the library to read or have many books in their home. As such, reading intervention programs are needed. Every day as I pull guided groups, my students get to work on the computers reading and being taught individualized lessons. However, not all students are able to access every component of these programs because they don't have a pair of headphones.
Headphones in my classroom will allow all students to access the individualized intervention programs provided by the school district without distracting others or being distracted by others.
They will help the students to focus on their learning and growth.
Every day students have small group time during, which they get to access these intervention programs and I work with groups; however, it needs to be quiet in the room so I can give attention to the students I am meeting with and so the students can work on their own programs at their seats.
