My classroom is brought alive each morning by 24 curious, kind, and grateful 2nd graders. They live in a low income area, with 90% of them receiving free breakfast and lunch. Their families support them by making sure they are here every day and on time. We have had 98% attendance since the beginning of the year.
My students are very capable learners working at many different levels.
Many of my students are second language learners that are working very hard to understand English. They have daily goals to do their very best and know that mistakes are learning opportunities and to never give up.
My students are very kind. We write nice notes to each other on a daily basis and write kind words to staff and other students on a weekly basis. They know that they will learn more if we all work together. They choose to be kind and assist others in any way they can. They understand that they have strong influence on the world and everyone around them. I learn something new from my students everyday. It is a pleasure to work with them and help them strive for happiness and excellence.
This project is important because we use headphones for daily learning. Headphones will make it easier for students to focus on their individual learning while using district wide programs. Students will also be able to research topics of interest without disturbing others.
During the day I work with small groups of children based on their academic needs.
If each student has a set of headphones, I can assign digital lessons to those I am not working with in a small group.
Each student will be responsible for taking care of their headphones. This is a great way to instill responsibility and independence.
