My students need headphones. Headphones in the classroom will help my students actively participate in the new computer reading program. They will be able to read at their level and beyond. I am also requesting a pencil sharpener.
I am a fourth grade teacher in a low-income Title I school. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire learners to follow a path of academic excellence.
My Project
Many of my students are not financially able to afford everything that they need for school. Having headphones in the classroom will help my students to actively participate in our new reading program called I-Ready. This program brings the reading to their level and gives them activities and lessons to help improve their overall reading ability. If students do not have headphones then they have to listen to the speaker, which can distract other students who are also utilizing the program.
Headphones sharpen the mind; a pencil sharpener will help students create work samples and learn.
Pencils are a hot commodity in my classroom. The biggest issue is having one pencil sharpener. The one the school provides does not meet the needs of the students and tends to fall off the counter many times. Having more than one pencil sharpener will ensure that students are prepared for class and offer less of a distraction.
