it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I work in a low-income school district in Washington state where 100% of my students receive free meals at school.
My students are migrant learners who live on a reservation. They are eager to learn despite the odds they have against them in their lives. At our school, we do everything we can to help them be college and career ready. This includes being people who are hard workers and excited to learn.
My Project
Through your donation of 20 sets of headphones to my classroom, students will be able to use online resources such as Epic stories, iReady, and a variety of applications to play math games for foundational skills and listen to stories being read to them. Some of their favorite authors on these sites include Mary Pope Osborne, Marc Brown, and Dr. Seuss. I grew to love many of these stories at home reading with my family in the evenings. Many of our students do not have that luxury because their families do not speak English or the parents work multiple jobs to provide for the family. These headphones will help build their love of reading, variety of books read, fluency, and reading stamina. We know how much students rely on technology right now during the pandemic as they begin to transition out of virtual learning and back into classrooms.
The headphones we are currently using in my classroom are starting to break so we need replacements.I have taped them together in several places, and the foam that covers the earpieces has been torn over the years.
Your donation of new headphones will have a huge impact on the students this year and for many years to come. With each story, we can begin to build a new generation of children who have a love of reading!
