My students need 40 headphones to help them focus during their independent work time. These headphones will give my students the opportunity to really listen to the English instruction on their computers without being distracted.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my two classes, I have 52 third graders who are all English Language learners. A significant portion of my students receive free and reduced lunch, are the children of immigrants, or are immigrants themselves. Their native tongue is Spanish and but they have a wide range of ability levels in English. All of these factors bring certain challenges, but they are not the most important qualities that characterize my kiddos.
What truly impresses me about my students is how they are active participants in our school community, and I am perpetually amazed by their energy, their desire to grow, and their excitement to learn.
For example, a group of my students have decided begun bringing trash bags to school and cleaning the playground during their recess without anyone asking them to do so. These kids have built a community together. They love working collaboratively, and helping each other out. They are particularly intrigued by interactive projects where they can use manipulatives to truly engage with and understand the concepts they are learning.
My Project
My little mathematicians are also just beginning to use technology to enhance their learning! This is really helpful for them as they transition from a third grade Spanish speaking classroom to a fourth grade English speaking classroom. Technology gives them the opportunity to make the transition between what they learned in Spanish and use it in English! However, this means that they must listen to the instructional videos at their own pace.
Technology allows children to pace their own learning.
But when all the students are listening to the videos and playing games at different times, the noise makes it very hard for them to focus on their own work. Having these headphones will really allow my students to engage in their own lessons, games, and instructional videos!
