My students need headphones with an attached microphone in order to successfully participate in their reading intervention software. This software provides my low-level readers to build their comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and writing through an interactive program.

My Students
My students' families struggle. We are a 95% free lunch community. In addition, we are a small, public, neighborhood school, so our building does not always get the funding and resources it needs to support our students in comparison to the larger schools in the district.
My students are smart, creative, and motivated.
Their families work hard and want their children to have opportunities that only an good education can provide. I want to provide every opportunity I can to make that happen for my students.
My Project
My intervention group uses the Read 180 and System 44 programs. These programs rely on an interactive software being used on a daily basis. Many of the headphones/microphones that we have are broken, which limits the productivity of these programs. Some headphones may work, but the microphones are broken which means they are unable to record their fluency passages. We spend a lot of class time trying to make sure students have all shared the minimal working equipment. This is time that could be spent using the software, reading independently, or working in small groups.
Fluency is a huge factor in becoming a successful reader!
These headphones/microphone sets will allow my students to grow their fluency by hearing a recording of their own voice read passages that are written in increasing complexity.
In addition to the headphones, The Common Core Guidebook is an extremely useful tool for my struggling readers. The information in this book is explicit, engaging, and accessible for students. It's a great addition to a classroom library for anyone with low-level learners!
