My Students

I teach math and science at a Title I elementary school. At this school, more than half of the students receive free or reduced-price lunches, and many families struggle to meet their needs. They live in various communities spread up and down a mountain highway, and most have to bus a significant distance to come to school each day.

These students are certainly special.

Of the schools I've worked at, they are overall the most willing to reach outside their comfort zones, take risks, and collaborate. I feel fortunate to work with them each day.

My Project

My students need a set of headphones so that they can access educational math resources such as iReady. At times, some students have their own headphones, but low income students often do not, and even the students who own them often forget them.

If I had a class set of headphones, it would level the playing field so that all students can comfortably access individual learning technology without distractions from other students around them.

Other teachers at my school have received these specific headphones through DonorsChoose.org, and they highly recommended them. They are economical, durable, comfortable, and the students love them. They also fold up for easy storage. Sounds perfect for my space and my group of kids!
