Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 130 incredible English Language Learners. My students represent a myriad of countries and cultures--the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cambodia, Nigeria, Thailand, Haiti, and more.
Despite all of these beautiful differences, all of my 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are unified in their love of learning.
Every day together is a new adventure, from group projects to blended learning. In our classroom, we try new things every day and focus on our lifelong growth as learners.
My students especially shine with technology, conversations about current events, and in artistic projects. My students are vivacious and creative, and I am so lucky to learn their stories every day.
My Project
Headphones are an essential tool for English Language Learners. When each student has their own pair of headphones, they are able to take charge of their own growth and learning and move at their own pace.
We are incorporating blended learning into our classroom through videos and readings.
When all of my students have their own pairs of headphones, they will be able to individually listen to the audio readings of our classroom stories. Additionally, they will be able to hear short videos and clips during class. This will allow them to move at their own pace and process the content more easily. Headphones will also reduce general classroom volume, creating a more calm and productive environment overall.
Some of my students are all able to bring headphones from home, but this resource is not available to all students. Our classroom needs a set of headphones that all students can benefit from.
