Located in a gentrifying neighborhood between the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Dumbo, our school has long served children who live in the public housing development across the street. Students with special needs from throughout the district come for the school's excellent ASD Horizon program for students on the autism spectrum.
There are ICT (integrated co-teaching) classes in every grade, several self-contained classes for special education students, and several special small classes for students on the autism spectrum in the ASD Horizon program.
Teachers provide personal attention and a gentle atmosphere. One general education student even studies in the ASD classroom because he works better in a smaller, quieter group. The first-grade classroom with cozy corners is dimly lit with music softly playing and all students focused.
My Project
Our classroom of eight intelligent students are currently sharing 2 working headphones. Unfortunately, our headphones are old, missing earpieces, and are in great need of an upgrade.
If each student had their own headphones, there would be distraction-free learning!
Many of our students are working on literacy, math, coding, and typing lessons online. If they are able to listen to their learning individually, it would greatly increase the academic achievement in my classroom.
Please help my students receive a simple solution. (Plus, they are a group of awesome kids too.)
