My students come from low-income and working class families and are part of a long tradition of hard work and learning. Most of them have part time jobs after school, and what little they have, has not come easy.
Our school is the oldest and most crowded high school in the city.
Many parents and grandparents attended this very same school. Even with hardships, they have kind generous hearts. Most of them really need support, so I give them all I've got. They are willing to work hard for me in spite of my corny science jokes because they know that I believe in them!
My Project
My students need a class set of headphones to use with our school computers. Our new digital learning platform is so much more effective when students can work at their own pace listening to lessons. Some students have their own earbuds, but most of them do not.
Having a class set of headphones will bridge the gap to make digital learning better for everyone.
We were already exploring our digital platform at school before the transition to distance learning, and we want to continue using it for many things once we return to school.
In addition to digital learning, my students also regularly use our awesome set of large whiteboards which were a wonderful gift from a past donor. We use them to display lab results, solve chemistry problems, and provide feedback during our lessons. We are completely out of markers for next year and need more to continue using our whiteboards!
