I teach technology and computers to Kindergarten through 5th grade at a Title I campus in southeast Texas. My campus is very diverse with many low-income students who have limited exposure to computers and technology. To some, school is the only place where they can explore different kinds of technology. They need technology to become better 21st-century learners.
When my students come to my computer class, they are very excited and eager to learn.
They love to learn new programs and try out new technologies. They are ready to be 21st-century learners.
My Project
My school has 2 computer labs that students come to for a variety of educational programs and lessons. One lab has many headphones that are old, broken or only one ear works on them. This often makes students unplug their headphones and listen through the computer speaker. This can be very loud and disturbing to others who are trying to work. It also takes away from their learning time.
These Sony headphones will benefit my students in the classroom by allowing them to interact with their device independently without disturbing others around them.
They will be able to listen to stories, watch Math and Science videos, and interact with a variety of different programs in all content areas. My students love to work independently on programs such as Discovery Education and Stemscopes, both of which need sound to interact with.
Having new headphones will also give students more time to be on task instead of spending several minutes looking for headphones that work. I want my students to be able to have a productive learning experience in the computer lab.
