My Students

Our school has recently purchased class sets of Chromebook computers. While they have many features, I find that students get distracted when other students are using interactive lessons with sound or watching short video clips that I embed into lessons.

I teach 97 energetic 7th and 8th graders.

My students are great kids and are eager to explore science topics, both in the lab and on computers. Our school has many students who can afford technology but also quite a few who have limited technology available to them at home.

My Project

I already use the Chromebooks for online learning activities, including some great simulations that students can manipulate/experiment with. The downside is that many of the apps include sound; this can be very distracting to other students and create a very crazy sounding classroom! I also plan to start having the students use some apps to create projects that include an audio track of them explaining the topic. I am requesting 30 headsets to experience interactive applications and online lessons. By having mics built into the headset, these projects will be enabled.

I am always striving to make my classroom a place for active learning.

By giving my students the headsets that I request, they will be more focused while they work online. All students should have experience with technology!
