I am a first year first grade teacher at a Title I school. This means most of my students are coming from high poverty backgrounds. Their families struggle to meet their children's basic needs and are often unable to support their children academically. Many of my students are working significantly below grade level and need extra support in the classroom to help them be successful. We are in need of some supplies for classroom to enhance their learning and help them be successful in their futures.
My Project
Being at a Title I school, classrooms are always in need of supplies. My students are in desperate need of headphones. We are very fortunate to have many educational computer programs but unfortunately so many of students do not have headphones so it is hard for them to utilize these programs successfully. Books are such an important part of a classroom and some of my students are reading above grade level. These students are currently partner reading to build comprehension skills. It is extremely important for each of these students to have the text in their hands and for that we need to have a variety of double sets of books. We are also in need of file folders and velcro to create interactive learning folders to help build phonics skills they will need to be successful readers. Student engagement is essential for the learning process in the classroom and for this I use sticky notes for my students to write down ideas on so they can interact with lessons that are being given during whole group activities. After all of my students hard work at the end of the day I provide them with a snack before they leave my classroom. My students are unable to bring their own snacks and many of them wait a long time until their next meal. My class and I would greatly appreciate any donations to help create successful futures!
