Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The kindergarten students in my classroom are always willing to take on a challenge. They are motivated, loving, and hardworking! My school services low-income families that don't always have access or transportation to get their children to services they may need. As an educator, I want to try to bridge the learning gap during the 10 months they are in my class. I try to motivate learning on a daily basis using various methods. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population. I love to inspire and challenge my students with high expectations to have them succeed. When you believe in your class, others will follow your lead. Help me build confidence and knowledge in kindergarten that will follow them in their learning for years to come!
My Project
Teaching kindergarten students virtually is challenging. I have 2 students that could benefit from headphones. One of the students is in a school setting with other kids that are also learning virtually. He hears a few different lessons while I am teaching. He will ask me to repeat directions because distracted or can't hear me. My other student lives in a small home with multiple family members and is unable to be in a space that is quite. She tries to focus but when she unmutes her computer, I can hear conversations in the background. I just want them to be able to focus and do well this year. I have also requested sight words for them to keep at home. It is very important to learn the sight words and by having these flashcards they will be able to use them when we are not in school as well as during classes. They need to know these sight words in order to improve their reading skills as wells as reading level. Any support in helping my students is appreciated!
