This is my 12th year teaching at the best "little school in the hood that could," as my principal says. We are a high poverty and high minority school. Even though my students may not always have a lot, they do not let that stop them from learning. They always come into my classroom eager and excited to learn.
They are constantly giving me hugs and writing me notes to tell me how much they love school.
I never want this joy and excitement for education to stop. That's why I need to keep finding new ways to keep them motivated and on task. They have so much energy and enthusiasm. I just want to see it channeled in the right way.
I teach 1st grade at a Title 1 school. My students love using technology, and we use it every day.
However, it can get very noisy in my classroom when so many students are on the computers and tablets at once.
My students get easily distracted and have a hard time focusing on what they are doing. Often my students who are reading their books on the tablets can't concentrate on the books they are listening to because they are hearing other computers or tablets. If they are playing learning games, you can hear the noise in the background no matter where you are in the room.
Headphones would make a huge difference. It would create a more calming and quiet small group time during reading and math.
The Math Slam games would give my students an opportunity to practice their math facts in a fun way.
