This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Can you teach me how to read?" One of my scholars asked me when discussing our goals for fourth grade. This year I will be able to keep these same scholars as they transition to fourth grade.
My scholars LOVE to learn and get so excited when I buy new materials for them to be more hands-on.
These scholars come from a variety of backgrounds, often from low-income families, and many have suffered from trauma at home. While they come in nervous they also come in excited and willing to take on the challenge of learning and beating the statistics placed upon them.
When in school, every day, instead of greeting my scholars with a handshake, I gave them a hug. We started our day each day with this family meeting chant "I am somebody!" to emphasize that they deserve the education that they receive. By the end of the year, the same scholar who wanted to learn to read wrote me another letter thanking me for helping to reach that goal.
My students are funny. They are brilliant. They are kids, and they are simply amazing!
My Project
While in school, scholars really enjoyed reading chapter books. My goal would be to deliver chapter books to scholars with a written message from their teachers. They can use the book to build their home library.
Virtual learning can be tough on scholars and we want to make sure they are as prepared and equipped as they can be, to ensure success.
Headphones are also included in this project and can be a tool for scholars to use while on Zoom calls to eliminate distractions around them.
The scholars will be extremely grateful to see the chapter books they want and quality headphones that will last! We appreciate you! It Takes A Village!
