Ms. Santini from Philadelphia PA is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students sturdy headphones that they may use with their 1 to 1 iPads.

"HOCUS POCUS!" I shout and soon 28 little kiddies scream "EVERYBODY FOCUS." This is how we start every lesson. Welcome to the antsiest, sweetest, silliest second-grade class. I have the pleasure of teaching at a Charter School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Our student population is diverse and delightful.
Everyone comes to school with a story and a smile. Unfortunately, this was not always the case. Seven years ago our charter took the school over. Before we came, the students were failing and feared coming to school. With a fresh coat of paint, new floors, desks and a batch of teachers the climate in the school changed. Students were finally excited to come to school and teachers couldn't wait for them to be there! Now that we have changed the climate, it is time to change the reading levels! We just need a little more help from our great friends through DonorsChoose.org!
Our 2nd grade has had the pleasure of being gifted 1 to 1 iPads in our classroom. These are a phenomenal and valuable resource, as there are programs on the iPads that are specifically built to students INDIVIDUAL needs and levels. The iPads are wonderful and help students strengthen their skills in all subjects while teaching them how to use and operate technology. Enter the problem: reading directions, hearing instructions, listening to an audio book. Sadly, the school had in previous years not been as fortunate. Once we came in with the charter we saw how far our students were behind grade level. With 28 students on iPads we have to have students keep the volume low, but then we have problems with students not being able to hear or read directions. We have sent out letters asking parents to send in headphones, but the response has not been great because this is another expense on our families. This is where you come in! With your help students will all have their own headphones and finally gain the confidence to work and learn on the iPads independently.
Remember the excitement you had with video games as a child?
Imagine the excitement these students have playing games while learning too! "Ms. S. can we please play Math Zombies? How about Sight Word Bingo? Can I finish my chapter book on Reading A to Z? What about Fun with Phonics? Can I go finish my quest on eSpark?" These are questions I hear on a daily basis. With the addition of headphones our class can fully gain the best learning experience through today's great technology. Your donation would be appreciated in all our hearts (and ears).
