The students in my Kindergarten class this year are so excited to learn new things, especially math.
Our school has an exceptional math program for tablets. My students are enthralled with this program and are highly motivated to make progress!

My Project
My class uses iPads daily for our district curriculum. This includes reading, writing, math, and science. Many of the amazing learning apps we use require sound. Students will use these headphones to interact with each other using digital portfolios to share writing, videos, and to record themselves reading.
Audio is such a critical piece for students in learning to read.
Our learning apps must have sound in order to be used most effectively. When several students are working simultaneously without headphones, the room is simply too loud for each student to hear. My students will use the headphones during literacy and math centers. They will help each student be able to focus on the piece of technology that they are working with. My students will access educational websites in which they have differentiated books, reading games, math activities from our curriculum, and they will even add to our classroom blog!
Having a set of the same headphones will help to create uniformity so that all students have the same opportunity when using audio tools. When headphones are on our school supply list, some parents buy a nice pair for their child, but most purchase low quality, inexpensive headphones. These headphones stop working or break after a short time period. Some store-bought headphones are not compatible with our technology. Very few parents are willing to continue to buy headphones throughout the year as they keep breaking. Most families cannot afford to buy several pairs as the year goes on. They will only buy one and then the student must borrow school headphones or go without. Having this set in my classroom will save the parents and teacher from having to use personal funds for such a critical resource.
