I teach eighth, tenth, and eleventh graders in English Language Arts. We are blessed to learn from each other in a small, rural school in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
My students' interests range from playing sports to participating in drama camp to showing farm animals at the county fair.
Our school is categorized as highest poverty. All students are offered free breakfast and lunch, and I am thankful that they don't have to worry about what they will eat and instead can focus on what they will learn.
In our classroom, we have Skypanels, which are decorative light diffusers. They look like clouds in the sky, and students love the ambiance that the Skypanels create. We are requesting four more Skypanels to diffuse the harsh fluorescent lighting from the remaining uncovered lights.
Also, we use costumes in our classroom to act out scenes from literature, such as The Great Gatsby, Beowulf, and Julius Caesar.
It would be helpful to have bags for storing these costumes since we don't have an actual costume closet and have limited space.
Lastly, there are wooden cabinets without doors in the classroom where these bags of costumes and other items can be kept. In order to hide the clutter, we are requesting curtains and tension rods.
These requested items will improve the look and function of our classroom, making it a more creative and organized learning space for the students.
