This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I spend my entire day with teenagers who hate to read...and I teach reading! My biggest challenge is to "hook" them on a book that will motivate them to continue their quest for more.

I teach at the most diverse middle school in our rural county.

Many of the students in my reading remediation classes are male. Typically I teach more male students who struggle with reading comprehension. Reading requires students to sit still and focus; a skill that is difficult for many of my students.

My Project

I am requesting a class set of Crossover because it is a novel that intertwines a powerful story around a basketball theme. The story itself is written as a series of poems, another difficult topic among my male students. What better way to turn kids onto reading and poetry than to combine with their love of basketball especially since the novel makes mention of a popular college team.

Your donation could be the "home run" novel that begins my students journey to becoming life-long readers.

I am always searching for that one book that can make the difference. For many of my students, this novel could be the tip of the iceberg!
