My Students

My first grade students are full of energy with a strong desire to learn and read. We live in three small, rural communities that combine to make our school district. Our elementary school is a small district with approximately 200 students in grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

These special first grade students love to learn through activities that are fun, yet focus on the skills that we need to master in first grade.

Six and seven-year-olds have the enthusiasm and energy to make any type of learning fun.

My Project

Many times throughout our day in first grade we need to work closely as a group as we read stories or work with manipulatives in math. This is often done by sitting on the floor in a circle so everyone can see and be seen and heard easily. I need a rug to place on the floor in my classroom to help with this circle time.

Students have a difficult time staying in one place when sitting on the floor as we work.

A rug that has the shapes will allow me to assign a spot to sit and give the students parameters to stay within. This will help students stay focused on the learning and be more engaged with the lesson.
