Mrs. Ranella Anderson from Jackson MS is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students the basics (Notebooks, Pencils, Highlighters, Erasers, Geometry Compass Sets, and Post Its) to stay ahead with Distance Learning at Home in Math!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My freshman through senior high school students is faced with having to learn math without adequate materials to be successful with distance learning. They feel stressed and frustrated. As a caring, purposeful teacher with a charismatic approach, it is my duty to help my students thrive, rise to the challenge, succeed, and unlock their opportunities to become unlimited and foster their future lives to be positively molded forever during these times of COVID-19.
My students are from low-income, poverty-stricken, and crime-infested communities, faced with challenges, projections, and stereotypes that are not one size fits all or indicators of their character, success, or learning styles and lack the resources to compete in today's global society.
They are challenged daily with expectations yet cultivated with a positive mindset that they will become proficient in their academic skills by learning with and without technology. Some lack the basics of pencils, crayons, markers, highlighters, and notebooks. Some are overwhelmed, afraid, nervous, and downright angered when faced with a challenge and expectation to become the best scholars and competitors they can be.
They are embracing positive mindsets and challenging/fostering each other to do their best with their distance learning.
I provided my 9-12 students with a Distance Learning survey to complete while they are learning at home. Within the survey, I asked them to provide a list of items that they are in need of to be successful in learning math at home since we are not at school due to COVID. The items requested are from their direct needs to help them be successful learn at home math scholars.
My 9-12 grade students are eager learners who wish to have these basic materials at home to continue their spark for learning that they had in class.
They request for sticky notes to aid in their studying process and to tab and jot formulas within their notebooks for easy access when studying, learning, and comprehending math skills.
With your support, my student's learning will continue during their tines at home and they will be able to continue to develop their critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and logic skills. Students will be able to take notes during their Virtual Classroom times with me, Khan Academy homework sessions, and answer activities and complete projects. The students will be able to continue their journal writings, draft mathematical concepts with their geometry set to make a better sense of problems, and highlight important words and formulas to aid in their comprehension.
