Our students come to school every day (with 98.4% attendance) in a diverse, low-income, urban community. They are 68% Asian, 14% African-American, 11% Latino, 6% Caucasian and 1% multiracial.
Our school community supports the whole student, academically, physically and emotionally.
By meeting the needs of our students on many levels, we help them to find success in school and in their community. It is a collective effort to help each of our students become the best people they can be. We try to create a foundation that they will take with them through their education and beyond.
My Project
All students get a supply list at the start of each year, but not all students come prepared to class each day. Either their families don't get the supplies, or students find they are missing something or leave it somewhere else. The request to go get a pencil from their locker or another classroom just stalls us from getting started OR causes the student to miss something valuable in class.
With a supply of needed materials in the classroom, we can get to the business of learning and maximize our time together.
Students will no longer need to hunt through their lockers or backpacks or for pens, pencils, highlighters, index cards, and sticky notes. Whether we are annotating an article with highlighters, annotating in a book with sticky notes, creating flashcards from index cards for vocabulary learning, creating our amazing vocabulary art cards (on giant index cards), or simply journaling, these supplies are a necessity for students to find success in school. With your help, we can use all our of literacy time reading, writing and talking about literature.
