“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Dr. Seuss
I have an amazing group of 7th graders who are eager to grow with their reading.
They come from different background with only one thing in common and that is attending a charter school where there is no transportation except for parent to bring them to and from school every day. I have English Language Learners, special needs, and economically disadvantage students. They all want to and enjoy reading books.
The most important is how much fun they have with me. I have come to know my students so well. I have the class clown, the jocks, the smart kids, comic book geeks, computer nerds, popular and not so popular kids. They all just want to read fun and interesting books.
My Project
I remember reading in school nonfiction stories and thought that they were boring. I picked a book that is fast pace and interesting for the students to read. They will learn about the manhunt surrounding President Lincoln's murder, plus they will be learning how to use nonfiction reading skills to comprehend the story. They struggle with comprehending nonfiction stories and I feel for them to feel successful with the standards that they need an interesting book.
Using this story to help them be prepared for the Florida State Assessment which will be given the end of April.
It is important that they continue to improve because several of my students have expressed their goals and I want them to feel successful in achieving their goal. Using fun and interesting books will allow them to feel successful in helping them achieve their goal.
My final goal is for students to learn to love different genres of books. I want them to know that their are different genres that can have interesting stories. Most students run towards fictional stories only a few pick to read nonfiction. I want them to see that nonfiction stories can be interesting.
Please help me achieve my goal to help my students who want to read fun and interesting books improve their comprehension, meet the goal that they set for the FSA, and learn to enjoy different types of genres.
