Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students start their day with breakfast in the classroom and they are ready for P.E. They enjoy teaming and playing with the other third graders, and love the competition. They are learning different exercises to help them stay fit, and they are loving the collaboration.
My students are active third graders who don't always get to play outside at home.
We are an inner city school, and sad to say more than half of the students at the school are overweight. They enjoy working and playing together, and once in a while a friendly competition. They are learning how to stay fit through physical education and health lessons.
My Project
I will be using the new P.E. equipment to help build team spirit and collaboration; and at the same time build stamina. Most of our students are familiar with baseball, but few have the opportunity to play the game. They will learn to hit a ball with a bat, instead of just kicking a soccer or kickball. They will use the parachute to learn to work together to reach one goal. The beanbags will be useful in teaching them how to throw, catch, or even kick smaller size objects. All the equipment will be used during PE time to build my students' stamina and a love for an active lifestyle. The medals will be used as a culminating closure for all of their accomplishments.
The donations will allow my students to have wider variety of activities during PE time.
As of now, they are mainly playing games that either uses the red playground balls or running relay races. Many of them have never seen a parachute game, nor played baseball with their classmates. My students are also running laps every week to build their stamina. They have a goal of 105 laps to complete by the end of the year, about 26 miles. They will be motivated when they see the medals.
