Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what you did for exercise as a child? To combat childhood obesity, I would like to promote exercise in a fun way for my students. Today's children do not have the opportunities that I had as a child. In the inner city, safe and quality space, is at a premium.
My students come from a high poverty low income area.
Most of the children are from single parent homes. Our classroom is a Pre-Kindergarten inclusion model with 7 special education students and 8 non special education students. I have two sessions a day for 2 1/2 hours each.
I teach inner city students who are between the ages of 3 to 5 years old. My students love to learn. My students will gain knowledge how important it is to exercise while having fun by pedaling a tricycle with a focus on safety too. This is the first year that Pre-K is in this school building so resources are limited for gross motor play. There is no playground at our school but we have a hard top for riding tricycles!
My Project
Having tricycles available for children to ride will promote exercise. Safety helmets will teach children the safe way to ride. The students will learn a life long lesson about exercise and obesity. I will have an opportunity to talk to the students about how excerising helps their body's to stay tone and fit.
The First Lady Obama was my inspiration along with the fact many of my students are in the catorgory of being obese.
My project was designed to focus on students gaining knowledge how important it is to exercise and having the experience of riding a tricycle with safety in mind. Many of my students have not had the opportunity to experience riding a tricycle so what a great way to promote exercise while having fun!
