Ms. Goldberg from Chicago IL is requesting sports & exercise equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need heart rate monitors to help regulate their emotions/feelings. Often times students are in a deregulated state (angry, upset). Measuring their own heart rate has proven to help them be calm and learn.

Want to see grit in real life? Come on down to our school on Chicago's South Side and watch our kids defy all odds.
With only 2% of students in our community projected to graduate from a four year college, 100% of my students will graduate from college.
Our students demonstrate and practice our core values: grit, courage, excellence, pride, and zest; these skills will enable their college persistence.
We love learning challenging topics through songs and movement. We celebrate when someone makes a mistake. And we love to learn about the world around us by reading nonfiction texts and improve the world around us by inventing!
Studies have shown that students who are able to regulate their emotions and feelings are better able to learn and are more successful overall. Many of my students come from unstable, unsafe environments; therefore, when they come to school, they struggle to be calm and productive.
My students need heart rate monitors to help regulate their emotions so they can enter a state of calm learning.
When I see a student who is upset, I let him or her measure the heart rate with my FitBit. 99% of the time, my student is able to regulate simply with this increased awareness of his/her heart rate. If we have 10 more heart rate monitors, the number of students this intervention can be utilized with will increase. The entire class will benefit from the increased sense of stability.
