I teach in a wonderful community oriented school, a school that offers family nights, parenting help, curriculum explanation nights and fun filled events. We have a high level of families with socio economic need and a significant ELD population. My school is actually a title one school.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, they need team building activities and games.
As I explained above my school reaches out as much as possible. I try in my classroom to also build community spirit and encourage my students to help each other emotionally as well as academically.
We as a class already practice Mindfulness daily to help with the stresses. What I would like to do is offer time at recess for students to stay in and play structured games together, this encourages team spirit and is comforting for students who find making friends difficult. Recess can be a stressful time for some students, games would help them integrate. Please help me help my students.
My Project
Each item I chose for this project will help my students learn the standards I teach in Second Grade. They will learn in a fun way collaborating with each other. They will be exploring as a team. Those who find fostering relationships difficult will have a chance to work in a group with a focus on a project rather than the focus being "I have to make a friend". It will be a safe environment for all. Students from all backgrounds learn so much through structured play both academically and socially.
The Thomas Optical Science Game requires students to work together to build microscopes and telescopes.
This will help them understand how they work along with concepts how light works. The STEMbuildong sets requires students to solve challenges together and apply science. These are two examples of the projects I have ordered.
All of the items I have ordered require teamwork, solving problems and applying scientific or language arts knowledge. I hope you will help my students share these experiences. Thank you.
