Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember how much fun it was to "play" games in class. My students have yet to experience playing games that I believe will help them master reading skills that will benefit them throughout their life.
My students come from low socioeconomic homes.
Most of them do not see college as a future and are reading below their grade level. They do not enjoy reading or the reading skills that I am teaching in class. These students attend a school that serves kindergarten through fourth grade.
My Project
My hope and dream is to change the way students see reading and the vital reading skills that they need to learn. By getting these materials, my students will be able to play and enjoy reading activities. This will in turn give me time to work with students one-on-one or in small groups. The students will be having fun and I will get to work with my lowest students to help boost their self-esteem and reading. The students will gain reading skills that they will use throughout their lives. This will help them through college and even out in the real world. They will be able to pick up a newspaper, book, instruction manual, etc. and will be able to read the text and understand what it contains. I have requested several kid friendly board games that will help them master reading skills such as main idea, sequence, inference, etc. I have also asked for an interactive reading game that can be played on my Smart Board (interactive white-board).
My students will have the opportunity to experience how fun learning and reading can be.
They will gain an understanding of various reading skills that will help them throughout their life. My students will leave third grade feeling like they can achieve anything in life. They will forever more be a great reader.
