My students are Special Education Kindergarten through second grade students who attend a suburban Title I school. These students have a wide variety of physical and/or cognitive disabilities. Despite all of these challenges, they still come to school with smiles on their faces, full of questions, and ready to learn. Each day, they inspire me and everyone they come in contact with to be the best they can be!
I am lucky each and every day to be their teacher and hope to inspire them with new activities and experiences so they can be the best they can be.
These students love to inquire, learn from their friends, and learn in the most comfortable environment for them. In order for all students to be successful, we vary learning strategies, incorporate group work, complete different hands-on projects, and make sure all of their needs are met. They are an incredible group, and each year I consider myself to be so lucky to have the opportunity to watch them grow over the year.
My students often come into my classroom with limited social skills and are behind in academics. With the addition of these LEGO kits, my students will practice their social skills while learning a critical skill, how to code! Providing my students with these materials is important to me because it will allow them to be prepared for the future workforce and help them learn how to be problem solvers. This year, my students came in not knowing how to "play" but thanks to LEGOs, my students became the best of friends and learned how to communicate and play. My students also currently have STEM time, where they practice these 21st-century skills.
Combining LEGOs and STEM time will allow my students to learn how to play and how to code all at once!
The Coding Express, STEAM park, Storytales, and Build Me Emotions will provide my students the opportunity to make friends, learn critical coding skills, learn social skills and allow them to learn while having fun! With your help, we can make this dream a reality.
