My Project

I am excited to see my students back to school and their progress despite the limitations during the pandemic. I rotate to five different schools, serving students and helping them tackle their sensory and fine motor challenges. There are only three schools with a sensory room among the five schools I service. I have students who require a constant place for sensory breaks in every school. Many of these students require tools that they can use to help them with sensory regulation and assist them in their learning.

I appreciate that we have one sensory room in each of the three schools.

Every year, I organize each room for the students to have a functional place where they can calm down and regulate their emotions when they need it. Our school district provided us with equipment; however, we need more tools and sensory items in every school. I am requesting for variety of sensory and motor items to meet the needs of my students.

Teachers’ most requested item for the students is noise-canceling headphones. Most of our students have a low tolerance to noises that affect them in school. Now that students are back to school after not being with their peers during the pandemic, many of them are excited but, at the same time, require time to adapt to the school environment.

All sensory rooms need more items such as Theraputty, puzzles, lacing activities, mazes, and games that can provide our young students the opportunity to practice sensorimotor skills while learning. Fidget toys and music sets are great for students to regulate sensory. I create a personal sensory toolbox to ensure that the tools help meet their individual needs.
