Our school serves pre-k through third grade and has a large population of low-income students. Our town is often known by this designation, but we are much more than that. We have smart, talented, creative students who need a place to shine. No matter what the challenges are for these students, they are our future and deserve a great one.
My third graders are eager to learn, and I like to provide a variety of learning strategies for them to feel successful.
We use many manipulatives and trade books. We rely on background knowledge in order to build upon what we know as we tackle the rigorous curriculum.
I look forward to watching my students grow and feel successful every year.
My Project
My students love science. I would love to enhance their learning by providing many trade books on various science topics that we cover in third grade. I like to encourage my students to continue to read about the topics we are studying by providing books at their level that they can read on their own. I put a bin of on-topic books in my classroom library when we begin a unit. They are welcome to read them throughout the day.
Books on topics we are learning about are a great way to grab my students' attention.
I also use the books to introduce a science topic we are about to begin to grab their attention and get them motivated to learn. I also read books throughout the units to continue their learning. Books only enhance what we are learning about.
