Have a Seat, Ms. Connelly's Plea For Classroom Furniture
My students need a carpet that can fit all of them on it. I would really like to give them the opportunity to share out in our morning meeting in a space accessible for all.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As the summer comes to a close, I find myself giddy for the upcoming school year. Last year, the school staff was made up of 80% new teachers; not only new to the building, but many new to the profession ,including myself. The feeling of working to build a school community's foundation was demanding, but extremely fulfilling . Now comes year 2; we've got the foundation and the possibility for achievement is endless.
I am excited to a part of the consistency that the children in this school so desperately need.
To know that adults are going to continue to show up for them, and believe in them is certainly powerful. I want to be able to provide the resources available for my students that will promote their love of learning.
The students at our school have the potential to be some of the great minds of the next generation, and I have the privilege to guide them toward a path of success and prosperity. I believe they all have it within them. By the end of the year I hope that they can believe that.
My Project
I am really trying to make my learning environment comfortable for all students and entice them with some extra options for seating. The rug I have asked for is big enough for all of my students to fit on it, a problem that I struggled with a lot last year. Many times I would have to deny a student seating in their preferred space for learning, and I certainly don't want that to happen again. This summer, I have worked hard to add a VIP supply kit for 2 students to have during our whole group lessons. This means that chosen students will have access to nifty supplies and (hopefully) these awesome lap chairs to work in during our learning time! I think it will be a great way to promote positive behavior in our classroom climate, and provide students chances to be praised for that behavior.
