Living and teaching in a high risk school system presents many challenges that others don't face. I teach a class full of kids who come from various backgrounds - middle and low socio-economic status, separated parents, married parents, living with extended family, limited vs. full technology access at home, attention issues, mental health issues, learning disabilities, and the list goes on and on. The kids in my class each bring their own experiences, personalities, and motivations to school with them each day.
With so many different personalities and needs in our classroom, my kids need a place that is able to meet more of their needs so they can reach their full potential.
Every student deserves a fair chance to learn!
My Project
Many of my students have attention issues or just can't seem to bear sitting in a hard plastic chair all day. I encourage students to "do what they need to so they can learn their best", and many of them currently choose to sit on the floor or stand rather than use their hard chairs.
Wobble cushions and balance balls will give my students a more comfortable option so they can change their focus from how uncomfortable their chairs are to what's most important - learning!
My students need a learning environment to fit their needs. Once these kids can get comfortable, they'll be able to hone their attention on our content material and meet their growth goals.
