My students need different seating options in the classroom. We are asking for different size options in balls as we have students that are varying in size. The Luxfit ball chair with backs are needed!
This program is a self contained life skills program for middle school students. We work on curriculum frameworks at a life skills level. The students in the program have a variety of cognitive impairments that do not allow them to work at grade level. You will not meet a harder working, sweet and amazing group of young adults anywhere..I promise!
The children in this program work hard, not just on academics but on all skills that they will need to function in life- social skills, life skills, job skills, and communication skills.
The smallest task for you may be one of the hardest for them. Yet, no matter how hard a task, or how many times we do it, the children always have a smile on their face and keep at it until they meet with success.
My Project
We are looking to change our seating options for our students to different alternative seating. This year we had two yoga balls in the classroom and the students used them at their tables. We noticed that the children were being more attentive and working for longer periods of time with the new seating. Alternative seating falls under a kinesthetic learning style, where students absorb and retain information through full body movements and other physical activities rather then passive activities like sitting and listening.
Each student learns in their own way and in turn shouldn't be confined to the same hard chair and desk for their academic career.
Other towns and communities have under taken transforming classrooms with "movement stations" and have seen great success. We would love to be able to eventually move to all different types of seating in the classroom (standing desks, rocking chairs, bean bags, etc).
