My 160+ 8th Grade math students come to class with an enormous range of math skills and and run the gambit from short to tall, focused to not-so-focused on school, free-and-reduced-price-lunch to middle class, fun-loving to shy, and most of all, growing in so many ways!
Classroom seating, like classroom instruction, needs to meet the needs of all students!
I have found that my students are willing and eager to learn when their social, emotional, academic, and physical needs are met.
My Project
Sometimes traditional seating in class, despite one's best efforts, can result in fidgeting or less-than-alert students. A flexible seating option including adult-sized beanbags and NeoRok "wobble" stools allows students to choose seating that better meets their physical needs and gives them a sense of choice/control in the classroom.
Middle school students often grow so fast that their bones actually ache!
Having a choice in seating that would allow students to stretch and move while working allows them to better focus on learning.
Flexible seating options would allow my students to choose a seating option that better fits their needs and comfort zone. Please help me make my classroom a more student-friendly and fun place to learn math!
