Fashionably flat, comfortable hats--How clever! Wait a minute, aren't those flat hats supposed to be bouncy balls?
Yes, my students are quite clever and quite cute with their repurposed bouncy balls on their heads...however...they need balls that bounce!
Aloha from na keiki o Hawai'i. My preschool special education class provides early intervention services to qualifying special needs children. My class has 8 students, ages 3-5 years. My school is located in a predominantly rural, low-income neighborhood with a considerable portion of the children of Hawaiian and/or Pacific Island ancestry.
My Project
It's frustrating trying to teach basic ball skills with a balls that don't hold air. In a physical education course I'm taking I learned about and got to practice with these great durable indoor/outdoor foam rubber "rhino-skin" balls that--best part--don't need to be pumped up--hurray! In addition to being bouncy, they have a tear-resistant, soft, non-sting surface which is perfect for young ones who are a bit timid about catching a ball.
In addition, I am requesting two other easy-to-catch styles and sizes of balls that are designed for beginners that also don't need to be pumped up. The pop-up soccer goal will give the children a target for engaging, independent kicking practice.
If you want something moved, you best have wheels. With the addition of these balls, we will definitely need that cart to transport them (and other equipment) to the play field.
"Childhood is the time to begin the development of active, healthy lifestyles.
Placing the child on the road to a lifetime of movement should begin early to ensure a lifetime of good health." --Council on Physical Education for Children. With your help, my students will have a ball learning and practicing gross motor and coordination skills using these balls that don't sting or go flat!
