This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Despite the struggles that my students face day-to-day, they are amazing in every way! My first and second graders live in a low socioeconomic area and attend a Title I school at which 100% of the students receive free or reduced priced breakfast and lunch. My students are faced with living in neighborhoods full of gun violence and gangs; yet, they are expected to sit still, be quiet, open up a book, and learn something new. They are just not focused on the task at hand. It's time to shift the traditional 20th-century learning towards the 21st century interdisciplinary learning to get them more engaged.
My Project
My students are in need of hats, gloves, socks, and snacks to help them to stay warm and comfortable during the school day. Warm hats and gloves will help students to stay warm as they arrive and depart school as well as during outdoor recess time.
Warm clothing during recess and snacks are equally important for children as we approach the winter weather.
Hats, gloves and even clean new socks will help children to be warm as they enjoy outdoor recess. Snacks and juices for snack time will help students to remain productive as they grow hungry as they wait for their late lunch time.
