Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our class is full of scholars who are excited to learn and explore! They attend a K-6 STEM Academy in an area where the population is 60% English language learners and 85% socioeconomically disadvantaged.
My goal is to provide students with a safe and stable learning environment where they can grow into 21st century leaders.
My students are faced with many challenges both inside and outside the classroom. Despite the many challenges many of my students face on a daily basis, I work to make our classroom a place where they feel safe and are excited to learn, explore, and share their ideas.
I am always striving to provide each student with the academic experiences they need to achieve greatness.
My Project
I started hatching chicken eggs in my classroom and it is by far the project the students love the most. During this STEM project my students learn all about the life cycle of chickens and ducks. They all become chicken experts! We also document our learning with a video each year.
After 21 days the chicks begin to hatch and I cannot even describe how magical it is to watch each and every child become so invested in this project.
The amazement on their faces and pure joy of it is heart warming. We invite many visitors into the classroom to see our brood of chicks and ducklings and each student takes turns introducing and explaining the whole process.
After many years and moving different classrooms and schools I am in serious need of a new incubator to continue recreating this learning experience year after year. With your help I will not only teach my students the life cycle but allow them to experience it!
