My students need a safe and organized space to be able read and learn to the best of their abilities. The items on this list will better enhance the functionality of our classroom.
Hurricane Harvey put a damper on my students classroom travel plans this school year. Ireland, Denmark, and Texas are just a few of the places my students "travel" to in the various books we read in class. I love to watch them compare and contrast and wonder about the children and the different regions they read about.
They are maturing and obtaining knowledge in the same small town school community that inspired me to be a teacher.
They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are mini inspirations to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are budding authors, world travelers, scientists, entrepreneurs, teachers... They are our future and I want to give them a great start to their long successful career.
My Project
These materials will replace what we lost from our classroom during Hurricane Harvey. I can't express in enough words the importance of being able to receive and use these items for my classroom, especially since I teach 6th grade Reading. I like for my students to be able to sit down with me at my teacher desk so I can give them my full attention when they need the one on one assistance . I believe my students need to feel at ease and comfortable when I am helping them with any additional instruction that they may need in order to accomplish what we are learning in class. My students would be extremely excited to be able sit and learn in the "cool" chairs and stools in the classroom. The opportunity of having a printer and computer cart in our classroom provides us with being able to print and get what we need right at that moment without breaking the flow of instruction.
Our classroom library was and is the space for my students to have an entertaining, interesting and organized place to read and learn.
It also provides a relaxing atmosphere in the classroom for them to let their minds explore and get lost in the adventures they are reading about. This part of our classroom is extremely beneficial in that it yields them the space to also create and organize their work. Using the book shelves, night stand table, desk, and rug would be a great start in helping rebuild this library for them. Being able to receive these materials will be a dream come true in helping me provide that warm inviting atmosphere that my students want to learn and be successful in!
