I teach an energetic group of eighth graders who love learning.
They have an innate curiosity for obtaining information about the world around them and I want to encourage them to continue their love of learning by exposing them to new and exciting hands-on experiences in science. We have over 900 students in our middle school and funding for school supplies for all of these students is difficult. My students deserve the best that I can offer them.
My Project
Having a class set of the book The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind will allow all students in my class to stay engaged while we read this story. The book was written by William Kamkwamba and is a story about his life in Malawi, Africa and the inspirational road he traveled to build a windmill that generates electricity and running water for his village. This story not only pairs with our alternative energy unit, but will also give students a great example of what it means to persevere and overcome obstacles.
