This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are bright, energetic, and loving. Although many of them have faced difficult hardships, and various trauma, my students are resilient and hard-working.
It is a joy to help them grow emotionally and instill coping skills to use now and later in life!
This project will help to give me the tools to increase our students' emotional intelligence, improve academics and social skills, and give them the tools to help them adapt to the world and live successful lives.
My Project
These materials will help create a sensory room for my students and assist in self-regulation and deescalation.
The sensory/sand table, trampoline, rocker, stacking blocks, Jenga game, and pea pod will all help many of the students in my school calm down when necessary, and simultaneously, give them the sensory input that many of them need.
Often children who have faced hardships or trauma have difficulty self-regulating and coping with life stressors, particularly in the classroom environment.
With the appropriate tools and interventions such as the requested items, I can help all students increase vital classroom time without missing important instruction, thereby improving academic success, as well as overall life and hopefully vocational success.
