This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Can you imagine sitting in band rehearsal and listening to everyone play while you sit in the back of the room with nothing to do? That is what my drummers face everyday.
I have 10 drummers that have a passion for drumming, there's just one problem - no equipment.
Our school's music program has little to no funding so buying supplies and equipment is very hard. These students are dedicated, intelligent, and passionate individuals who deserve every chance to succeed. Band keeps them off the streets and gives them a chance to continue on to college. It seems unfair to tell students, who really want to do something positive in school, that they can't play because we don't have enough materials.
My Project
If we had a xylophone, not only would it help the students participate in band but it opens the door of opportunity. If they learn how to play keyboard percussion it allows them to do audition for elite ensembles such as regional or state band. Having this kind of skill, students can qualify for scholarships and audition for college music programs.
Our band has doubled in the span of one year.
I need your help. I have more students than instruments. This xylophone would help students for years to come. It is so important to have this instrument in the band, for the students' sake.
