This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at an inner-city school that services many amazing, caring, and wonderful students. Even though many of them live in poverty, and some have experienced some tough things in their young lives, they come to me with a positive attitude to learn and grow.
Reading is a very big part of our day; they love to read, and they get very excited when books are donated by caring people from all over the world.
“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.”
― Charles William Eliot
My Project
I have used the book "Out of My Mind" by Sharon Draper to teach our reading unit for the past few years. Even though the kids have been very careful with the books, they are all falling apart. I wish to replace my old, softcover copies with new hardcover books. Hardcover copies will last for many, many years to come.
Since reading is such a big part of our day, it is very important to me to have books that will interest my teen readers.
This book is very popular with my students; they have all come to love it just as much as I do. I would like to be able to offer my future students the chance to read this amazing book, too.
