My Students

All of my students have been identified with a disability that prevents them from accessing the general curriculum. These special needs range from Autism, learning disabled to emotional disturbance. The students in my class come from a variety of backgrounds and each of their home lives are very different. My students are very passionate and motivated to learn. They desperately want to learn the same concepts and curriculum as their grade level peers so that they have the opportunity to go to college.

My Project

For most of my students with disabilities learning new material is difficult and they often want to give up rather than persevere. My students need to see the correlation between hard work and positive outcomes, which often does not come until they see their grade on a report card. My students would greatly benefit from receiving small rewards for hard work and perseverance. Rewarding students with small items such as school supplies or snacks can motivate my students to keep working while also showing them that I recognize their effort and hard work. Rewards can also be used as incentives for students who typically lack motivation to work in the classroom.
