I am an itinerant teacher for Deaf/Hard of hearing students (all grades) in multiple schools. Many rely heavily on lipreading to understand what is being said. Several have Deaf/Hard of Hearing siblings and parents as well.
My students need to hear and see well in order to fully access what everyone around them is saying, especially their teachers.
Properly functioning hearing aids and cochlear implants are essential. Hearing aid batteries are costly and sometimes the kids go without at home.
Some students use sign language in addition to wearing hearing aids and listening. Additional support is needed for teachers and parents
My Project
Hearing aid batteries will allow my students to hear well at home for those families who struggle to pay for these (often there are multiple family members with a hearing loss)
Listening is exhausting and often leads to miscommunication.
It is vital that my students be able to hear people speaking clearly. Your donation will be put to very good use and appreciated.
Building language skills also benefits my students with their communication needs. Listening and sign language skills help them develop better communication skills needed for their daily lives.
