This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hello, I am a first year teacher, working in a new Kindergarten classroom, at an at-risk school.
Many of my students are from low income homes and school is a safe place for them to come to and be valued.
In our classroom we are trying to develop a sense of a class family. We work together and build each other up.
I have yet to meet my first group of students ever, but I know with your donations I can make this a meaningful first year for the whole class!
My Project
We have started the routine in the first quarter of school of having a snack time near the end of each day. My students eat lunch early, at 10:30 AM, so they are hungry by the end of the day and this distracts them from their learning. I chose some kid-friendly, quick, and mess free snacks. Some of which are goldfish, cheez-itz, individually packaged cookies, and fruit snacks.
Many of my students come from low-income homes and many come to school hungry, the snacks in my classroom provide them with something to look forward to daily.
This time also gives us a positive time to talk with one another in a casual and natural way! This gives us time to build and maintain a positive classroom environment and community!
