Help me give my students a break from the stress of everyday issues that prevent them from learning by providing me with the tools I need to create a sensory trail within the school hallways using a Cricut.
I teach in a high poverty school. We have a very high percentage of students on free and reduced-price lunch. We have federal programs in place to ensure our children are not hungry and have many programs designed to ensure there is food for weekend meals.
We have a diverse school with wonderful students that come to school with emotional needs that interfere with their learning and the learning of students around them.
As we approach the beginning of the school year, I would like to prepare a sensory trail for our students to help meet their sensory/behavior needs. Our school will encounter students with behavior issues due to emotional needs not being met that will have an adverse effect on their behavior or choices at school as well as their learning. We have children with special needs such as autism that will require special learning tools and time out sessions. We have students that need a safe sensory trail to help adjust their emotions, anger and provide a positive outlet that will aid their learning and contribute to a successful year of growth.
My Project
Many students come to school, daily, with emotional baggage that interferes with their learning and often erupts into bad behavior. The emotional stress of day to day living often gets in the way of learning. By providing the students with a Happy Sensory trail through the school, I can provide a place for emotional release and support for students. The trail will have different areas that will provide moments of exercise/sensory stations. The Cricut will allow me to become creative with the vinyl cutouts and will adhere to the walls and floors. Each station area will provide activities such as push ups, hopscotch, touch counting, alphabet practice, etc.
With the use of the Cricut, I will be able to create a fun sensory path for my students, to help them focus on their daily school needs and promote a successful, emotional learning environment.
All students deserve to feel emotionally safe and to have experiences at school to help them gain control of themselves and their emotions.
