Happy Stories! Heartbreaking Stories! No Longer Printed Black & White
Help me give my students the opportunity to continue printing and sharing their heartbreaking (and happy) stories by providing the toner we must have to continue to use our color laser printer. We are completely out of toner.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My awesome middle school students face multiple challenges, yet remain strong and resilient—their voices must be heard, Our school population is diverse, but it consists mainly of children from Hispanic families with parents who are non-English speaking. These children have a high need for positive experiences and encouragement. We are in a low, socio-economic area with 100% of the student body receiving Free and Reduced Lunch. With the current political climate, the children often share and reflect their family fears and uncertainty.
These children have amazing and heartbreaking stories that must be told.
Some have lost family members—mothers, dads, siblings, grandparents— to extradition. Others grieve for parents who are incarcerated. It does not matter the reason—the pain is real and the stories need to be written.
My Project
Each year we do a trust-building lesson that culminates with a powerful personal narrative with illustrations. We revisit and add to the stories several times throughout the school year.
This is an ongoing project that reaffirms the students' feelings of self-worth and it acknowledges, through their own words, what they are going through during this politically driven uprising of inhumanity.
It gives these students a powerful voice.
Two years ago I wrote and received a grant for a color laser scanner/copier/printer so the students could print and share their very special stories and art. Now, we are out of toner for the printer and the school has had a major budget cut. Sadly, we no longer can print the wonderful student work. My hope is that you will make it possible to continue this very important project by providing the toner cartridges we need for the printer.
